Liam Neeson is set to take over Leslie Nielsen’s role in the 2025 reboot of The Naked Gun, with the teaser trailer suggesting that Neeson’s renowned persona from Taken will deliver an uproariously entertaining performance. Directed by Akiva Schaffer, known for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, and produced by Seth MacFarlane, the film features Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., following his father’s legacy by leading the Police Squad.
The teaser trailer for The Naked Gun begins with a bank robbery, where criminals are holding the bank hostage as law enforcement officers stand by outside. In an unexpected turn of events, a young schoolgirl manages to bypass the barricade and enters the crime scene. However, the seemingly innocuous schoolgirl is actually Frank in disguise, who reveals his identity by removing a face mask and growing several feet taller, before causing chaos inside the bank. Additionally, Frank’s seemingly ordinary lollipop turns out to be a cleverly concealed weapon, adept for both stabbing and stunning, as Neeson humorously handles law enforcement duties while dressed in the small schoolgirl uniform.
The teaser also includes a comedic scene where the current members of the Police Squad honor their fathers, with nods to Nielsen’s Lt. Drebin and George Kennedy’s Capt. Hocken. Viewers are encouraged to watch the full trailer for a surprise fourth-wall break regarding OJ Simpson’s former role as Det. Nordberg.
The Naked Gun also features a cast that includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 1.
