The Souls games, developed by FromSoftware, have not only redefined the action RPG genre, but also created a new genre called Soulslikes. Creative director Hidetaka Miyazaki, known for his humble demeanor, has downplayed the success of these games by simply stating that “players seem to enjoy our games.” His humility has once again come into focus as he discusses the forthcoming Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, leaving fans curious about the actual magnitude of the expansion.

In an interview with IGN, Miyazaki described the DLC’s main area, the Land of Shadow, as comparable to the base game’s opening area but potentially bigger. His estimation, similar to his previous guess about the game length, seems quite vague and has raised some eyebrows. This vagueness has led to speculations about the actual size of the expansion, especially considering the studio’s dedication to creating denser and richer level designs this time around.

Despite Miyazaki’s tendency to undersell, the fans are eagerly anticipating the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, with some hoping that it will be the action RPG’s climax. The ambiguity surrounding the size of the expansion and the creator’s reputation for underestimation are keeping the fans on their toes as they await further details on what the Land of Shadow has to offer.

As developers continue to provide scant details about the DLC’s size and scope, the gaming community is left pondering what exactly to expect from this highly-anticipated expansion.
