“Black Mirror” might find potential inspiration for future episodes from its own streaming platform, Netflix. Recently, Netflix has introduced a new AI search engine to a select group of its subscribers, as noted in a report by Bloomberg.
The AI search engine, developed with the support of OpenAI, the creator behind ChatGPT, enhances Netflix’s search capabilities beyond the traditional methods of searching by title, genre, or actor. This tool allows users to explore content through various search queries, such as mood. Given its foundation on OpenAI technology, it is anticipated that users will be able to employ natural language in their searches.
Netflix is no stranger to artificial intelligence; the company already uses AI to drive its recommendation algorithm, assisting subscribers in discovering content tailored to their viewing preferences.
While Netflix is delving into AI, it is aware of the concerns raised by creatives regarding this technology. The company has previously stated that AI will not be employed to replace filmmakers, screenwriters, or actors.
Currently, the AI search engine is in its testing phase. It is accessible only on iOS devices and limited to some customers in Australia and New Zealand, who must opt-in to use the tool. Netflix plans to extend this test to additional countries, including the United States, in the near future.
