Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has confirmed in an interview with Nikkei that the company plans to release new games for the Nintendo Switch in 2024. This announcement comes as rumors circulate about a potential successor to the Switch, tentatively called “Switch 2”, which may launch in 2024. Despite these rumors, Nintendo is committed to supporting the current model and is still working on software for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. Furukawa’s comments are seen as a reassurance to fans that there will be continued support and a focus on the current Switch console during the upcoming holiday season.

In addition to the statement about new games in 2024, Furukawa mentioned that Nintendo has Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and the Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door remake in the pipeline, both of which are scheduled to release in the summer of 2024. This implies that there may be other unannounced Switch software in development as well. With over 129 million units sold as of August 2023, the Switch has a significant install base which will continue to support the platform even after the launch of its successor. While Furukawa’s comments should not be taken as confirmation of first-party games beyond 2024, they do offer reassurance to Switch owners that there will be new content to enjoy in the coming years.

In conclusion, Nintendo’s president has confirmed that new games will be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2024, despite rumors of an upcoming Switch successor. The company is committed to supporting the current model and is working on software for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. While specific details about the upcoming games have not been provided, the announcement offers reassurance to Switch owners that they can expect continued support and new content for their consoles in the near future.
