NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, unveiled a new AI NPC demo called Covert Protocol at the GTC 2024 keynote. This demo, powered by Inworld AI, offers a fresh perspective on AI-driven game character development, diverging from previous demos showcased earlier in the year. Inworld AI, known for its integration with games like Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and Grand Theft Auto V, brings a unique approach to creating dynamic and immersive game NPCs.

The partnership between Microsoft and Inworld AI has resulted in the integration of Inworld’s technology with NVIDIA ACE for Games, a platform designed to enhance the development of virtual characters. NVIDIA ACE offers a comprehensive ‘digital human pipeline’, incorporating tools like Riva for speech recognition and Audio2Face for facial animation. This collaboration opens up exciting opportunities for game developers to craft detailed character storylines, interactions, and expressions that enrich the gaming experience.

By combining NVIDIA ACE microservices with the Inworld Engine, developers have the flexibility to customize various aspects of NPC behavior, including personality, goals, memory, and relationships. This integration aims to revolutionize the gaming industry by enabling the creation of digital characters that drive dynamic narratives. Additionally, NVIDIA plans to partner with ‘Digital Human Platform Partners’ to bring ACE technology to a broader market, expanding its potential applications beyond gaming to areas like customer service and enterprise solutions.
