The iconic Dell logo might soon become less prominent on the company’s products as Dell strives to perfect its office monitors. The UltraSharp 32 4K Thunderbolt Hub Monitor (U3225Q) is the latest addition to Dell’s prestigious computer monitor range, featuring a more subtle branding style.
This monitor, however, might not be considered the best option available due to its absence of OLED technology, which is currently trendy. Nevertheless, it boasts an “enhanced” IPS (in-plane switching) Black panel, exceptional connectivity, and an elegant design, positioning it as a top-tier choice for office use.
The monitor showcases a design familiar to those acquainted with high-end Dell monitors. It measures 32 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio and features a silver back, stand, and base. Some notable features include its relatively thin, black bezels. Unlike most Dell monitors, which typically have a strip of plastic housing the Dell logo on the bottom bezel, this monitor offers a cleaner appearance. It retains other useful features such as a wide range of adjustments, including tilt for vertical orientation, integrated cable management in the stand, and VESA support.
Image quality sets this monitor apart. Dell has long promoted IPS Black technology, developed by LG, which enhances the contrast of IPS panels as a cost-effective alternative to OLED technology, which can result in screen burn-in issues. Initially, Dell was the only company implementing IPS Black, but now brands like BenQ and HP have followed suit.
The U3225Q is equipped with the next-generation IPS Black, which further enhances contrast from 2,000:1 to 3,000:1. While not matching OLED levels, this represents a significant improvement over older IPS panels. Although the monitor does not achieve this contrast ratio at maximum brightness, it still offers remarkably high contrast for an IPS panel. Without last year’s U3223QE model on hand for a side-by-side comparison, the specifications alone indicate the exceptional quality of this IPS panel, particularly in terms of contrast. This results in darker, richer-looking blacks and more vibrant colors.
The U3225Q also delivers impressive brightness, reaching up to 417 nits. While 300 nits is generally adequate for office work, the additional brightness ensures visibility even in sunlight-drenched settings.
