Earlier today, Sega held a livestream event titled Sonic Central, unveiling new developments tied to the Sonic franchise. One notable announcement was a collaboration between Sonic and DC Comics, resulting in a Justice League comic book series slated for release in March 2025.

During the 30-minute presentation, Sega revisited an animation of Shadow the Hedgehog portrayed as Batman, initially released on Batman Day by the official Sonic X/Twitter account. The animation, which initially puzzled fans, has now been clarified as promotional material for the forthcoming Sonic and DC comic crossover.

Sonic’s Chief Brand and Business Officer, Ivo Gerscovich, disclosed that the Sonic x DC collaboration will commence with a five-issue monthly comic series written by Ian Flynn. Although the artist was not named during the stream, the presentation showcased DC hero-inspired designs for Sonic characters. Instead of teaming up with the Justice League, Sonic characters will assume the roles of iconic superheroes such as Sonic as the Flash, Shadow as Batman, Amy as Wonder Woman, Silver as Green Lantern, and Tails as Cyborg.

In addition to the comic series, Sega announced a collection edition of the comics along with merchandise, including clothing, accessories, and toys, to be released in the fall of 2025. Gerscovich also hinted that the collaboration would extend into 2026 with further activities and events planned.

To address the anticipation ahead of the collaboration’s launch, Sega concluded the livestream with a message from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director, Jeff Fowler. The video, which featured a recap of previous Sonic films along with commentary from production personnel hinting at future stories, included a preview of Sonic and Shadow alongside the film’s logo. Additionally, Fowler appeared outside a Paramount Pictures production lot with dancing Chao mascots, giving a nod to Chao enthusiasts.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to hit theaters on December 20.
