Jim Ryan, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and PlayStation, has announced his retirement in March 2024. Ryan has been with Sony for nearly 30 years and became CEO of SIE in 2019. During his tenure, he oversaw the successful launch of the PlayStation 5, which has sold over 40 million units. There is no indication of Ryan moving to a new role in the gaming industry at this time.

Ryan joined Sony in 1994 and worked for Sony’s European entity before assuming various roles within the company. He became President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe and later served as head of global sales and marketing, deputy president of SIE, and ultimately president in 2019. Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s President, COO, and CFO, will take over as Chairman of SIE in October 2023 and assume the role of interim CEO on April 1, 2024.
