Spotify’s beta AI Playlist feature is now being introduced for Premium users in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. This functionality enables users to create and refine custom playlists using text prompts. Initially launched in April in the UK and Australia, the feature aims to provide a seamless way for users to translate creative ideas into playlists.
Spotify has provided several examples to illustrate the tool’s capabilities, such as generating playlists for an “Upbeat folk music for a scenic fall road trip” or “2000 era hype jams for the tailgate.” Users can further refine the playlists if initial results are unsatisfactory, with additional prompts like “less peppy” or “hold the Nickelback.”
The company explains that the feature leverages personalization by selecting tracks based on the user’s listening habits. According to Spotify, the AI yields the best outcomes with prompts related to genre, mood, or artists, though users can also explore topics like animals, activities, movie characters, colors, and emojis.
AI Playlists can be accessed by Premium subscribers through the Spotify mobile app, although the rollout is gradual and the feature may not be available to all users immediately. To access the feature, users should navigate to the Your Library section, tap the + button, and select “AI Playlist.” They can then use the pop-up chat tool to start generating their custom tracklists.
