Meta has been continually enhancing Threads’ compatibility with the fediverse over the past year. Recently, the company introduced a notable update that enables users to access more detailed information about their followers and interactions with individuals from other servers within the fediverse.
Previously, Threads had surfaced replies from Mastodon and other servers, and notified users about likes on their posts from other fediverse applications. However, Threads users were unable to view detailed information about their followers from these services. This has now changed, according to a post by Adam Mosseri.
With the update, any user who has opted into fediverse sharing on Threads will now be able to see a comprehensive list of their followers from different servers and view their profiles. This enhancement allows Threads users to better understand their reach and audience on Mastodon and other similar applications.
Despite these improvements, Threads’ support for the fediverse remains somewhat limited. Users still cannot reply to responses originating from outside of Threads, nor can they search for individuals on other servers from within Threads. Additionally, there is still a delay in cross-posting, with it now taking 15 minutes for a post to appear on the fediverse, even as Meta has expanded the edit window for posts.
In related developments, third-party developers have made strides to simplify cross-posting across multiple decentralized services. A new application named Croissant allows users to simultaneously post on Threads, Mastodon, and Bluesky. This paid app, initially reported by TechCrunch, is designed to offer functionality similar to enterprise social media management tools like Buffer.
