The upcoming Wear OS 4 update will bring new safety features to the original Pixel Watch. One of the features is Emergency Sharing, which allows users to send their real-time location to predefined contacts in case of an emergency. Users can set what information is shared, including phone calls, emergency calls, low battery notifications, and real-time location. Another feature is Safety Check, which creates a check-in timer and automatically shares the user’s location with emergency contacts if they don’t cancel the countdown. Lastly, users can add medical information to their Pixel Watch, which emergency responders can access by long-pressing on the crown.
These safety features are part of Google’s focus on making wearables safer for users. The Pixel Watch 2 will also have exclusive features like Safety Signal and “Emergency contact dialing.” Additionally, Google plans to bring Auto Call Screen to both generations of Pixel Watch, allowing users to receive real-time call transcriptions on their wrist. Other updates in Wear OS 4 include the availability of apps like Gmail and new system features such as the ability to transfer the watch to a new phone. The Wear OS 4 update for the original Pixel Watch is expected to be released later this year.
