Valve has removed a video game from its Steam online store following reports that the game’s free demo was installing malware on users’ computers.
The game in question, Sniper: Phantom’s Resolution, was advertised as offering players realistic first-person shooter mechanics, dynamic storytelling, and high-stakes missions, as noted in an archived version of its Steam page.
Reports suggesting that the demo may contain malware emerged earlier in the week from several Reddit users who downloaded and analyzed the demo.
The removal of the game from Steam was initially reported by TheGamer.
The incident is reminiscent of a similar situation last month when Valve had to remove a game titled PirateFi, which was discovered to be malware aimed at stealing players’ passwords. This type of malicious software is known as an info-stealer.
Valve has not provided a comment regarding this matter.
