The Severance-themed glass cubes at Grand Central Station have been replaced by full-scale transformations of the show’s filming locations. On April 5, Apple transformed Bell Works in Holmdel, New Jersey—the site used for the Lumon Industries building in the series—into an immersive experience titled the “Lumon Experience.” This event is part of a series of promotions for the show’s second season, which previously included a Grand Central pop-up and a balloon-themed installation in London. The Bell Works event, however, provided a more extensive experience.
Upon arrival at the Bell Works campus, visitors were greeted by iconic sites such as the classic white water tower, featuring voiceovers by Sarah Sherman from Saturday Night Live in a Season 2 “Lumon is Listening” video. As attendees entered the building, they were invited to immerse themselves in an environment echoing one of their favorite shows while also appreciating Bell Works’ architecture with its mirrored exteriors and vast retro-futuristic interior. The space was bustling with fans exploring the area, adding to the ambiance of Lumon Industries.
Inside, the décor enhanced the illusion of Lumon Industries with details like the Lumon front desk, propaganda posters, and even a Lumon vending machine stocked with themed snacks. Actors dressed as Lumon employees, including Sarah Bock who reprised her role as Miss Huang, interacted with attendees, maintaining a tradition from previous pop-ups. Kier Eagan’s massive projected head dominated one wall, reminiscent of the show’s themes.
Further into the Bell Works, the basement level displayed props like “Lumon is listening” signs and “Missing” Gemma posters from the series. After the main event, an afterparty featured office set replicas where actors played the series’ red ball game and reenacted scenes. Copies of the book “The You You Are” by Ricken Hale were displayed, and attendees were treated to themed refreshments, adding to the immersion.
A highlight of the Bell Works event was a Q&A session with the Severance cast, showrunner Dan Erickson, and director Ben Stiller, moderated by Stephen Colbert. The session included behind-the-scenes anecdotes and discussions about key scenes from the show. The Q&A opened with a live performance of the show’s theme by its composer, unveiling the rolling grass hills of Mammalians Nurturable, and featured in-character appearances by Gwendoline Christie as Lorne, the Goat Queen.
The event was marked by the dedication of the show’s fans, many of whom traveled significant distances to attend on short notice. This commitment highlighted the growth and resonance of Severance’s fan base since its first season. Overall, the Bell Works event offered a unique opportunity for fans to gather and celebrate the show’s impact and success.
