The latest redesign of the YouTube for Android app includes replacing the Library tab with a new “You” tab. This design change removes the user profile avatar from the top-right corner and places it in the bottom bar as an icon for the “You” tab. This new tab combines the functionalities of the previous account menu and Library. The redesign breaks the consistency of having the account picture in the same position as other Google apps, and it bears some resemblance to the design style of social media apps like Instagram. The new “You” tab includes channel information, account and settings options, as well as carousels for History and Playlists.

While this redesign may reflect YouTube’s desire to differentiate itself from other Google apps, it deviates from the design language and consistency that Google has upheld across its applications. The YouTube app maintains its own distinct font and icons, and it is unlikely to adopt Google’s Material You design for its bottom bar. Only one report of this redesign has been confirmed so far, but if implemented, it could further set YouTube apart from other first-party apps.

Overall, the new “You” tab replaces the Library tab in the YouTube for Android app, offering a different user interface and organizing features such as channel information, account settings, and history in a new layout. This redesign reinforces YouTube’s unique design language and potential divergence from other Google apps.
