The test involved four rounds of drops, including a back drop, corner drop, face drop, and a bonus round onto steel. While both smartphones remained fully operational after the drops, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra showed less damage than the iPhone 15 Pro Max in three out of the four rounds. The final score gave the S23 Ultra 39 out of 40, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max earned 37. The iPhone 15 Pro Max exhibited cracked back and front glass, while the titanium material proved more resilient than the S23 Ultra’s aluminum for the corner drop.
Despite both devices surviving the drops with minimal functionality issues, the iPhone 15 Pro Max sustained more damage compared to previous models made with steel frames. The drop test conducted by PhoneBuff utilized controlled conditions, ensuring that the phones were dropped at the same distances and onto the same materials for accurate comparison. The test results raise questions about the durability and resilience of the iPhone 15 Pro Max in comparison to its competitors. While the device remains fully operational after the drops, the cracked glass and lower score in the drop test suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may be less durable than its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro.
