Jan-Bart van Beek, the Art and Animation Director at Guerilla Games, has confirmed that a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn will be released on October 31. This enhanced version includes more than 10 hours of re-recorded audio, updated motion capture, and improvements in character models, animations, lighting, and textures. Van Beek stated that these updates bring the game to the same level of visual quality as Horizon Forbidden West. The remaster is compatible with the PlayStation 5 and PCs, and it also supports the PS5 Pro, which is set to launch on November 7.

Van Beek noted that significant advancements in computer graphics have occurred since the original game’s release seven years ago. The Dutch video game developer Nixxes has worked on the remaster, incorporating enhanced audio and Atmos rendering for a more immersive experience. The remastered edition will also include The Frozen Wilds expansion, complete with additional lands, machines, and skills. The PC version will feature support for ultra-wide resolutions and performance-enhancing technologies such as NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 AI-based rendering accelerator.

The game’s original accessibility features, including remappable controls and haptic cues, have been retained. Additionally, a new optional accessibility feature has been introduced to notify players of interactable elements via sound and haptic feedback.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will be available for $50. However, those who own the original game or the complete edition can upgrade for $10, applicable for both PS5 and PC versions via Steam or the Epic Games Store. This discounted upgrade is also available to players who added the game to their libraries through Sony’s Play at Home program during the pandemic. For PS4 disc owners, the disc must be inserted into the console for each play session, which means the upgrade is not available for the disc-free version of the PS5.
