Each fall marks the anticipated tradition of revisiting the miniseries “Over the Garden Wall.” With the arrival of changing leaves and the emergence of pumpkins, many, including fans, think of exploring the Unknown with characters Wirt and Greg. This year carries additional significance as it celebrates the 10th anniversary of the series’ debut on Cartoon Network. In honor of this milestone, a new stop-motion short has been released. Created by Cartoon Network and Aardman Animations, the short features original voice actors such as Elijah Wood as Wirt, Collin Dean as Greg, and Melanie Lynskey as Beatrice.
Patrick McHale, the creator of “Over the Garden Wall,” proposed the concept for this stop-motion special to directors Mikey Please and Dan Ojari earlier in the year. According to Ojari, all figures in the short are crafted as hand-carved wooden puppets, with filming conducted on miniature sets, including a forest measuring 10-by-10 square meters, which required two months to construct. Please mentioned that the only digital component is the facial animation.
The final product is described as visually appealing and serves as an ideal introduction to the whimsical world of “Over the Garden Wall” for fans who revisit it annually. The short is currently available for viewing on YouTube and other platforms.
