During an interview at Vox Media’s Code 2023 event, Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X (previously Twitter), revealed previously unknown statistics about the platform. Yaccarino, who has been at the helm of X for 12 weeks, disclosed that the company has seen a decline in daily active users since Elon Musk took over. Currently, X has 225 million daily active users, a decrease of tens of millions or 11.6% of users since Musk’s acquisition. These figures are lower than the 254.5 million daily active users reported just before Musk’s takeover.

According to The Information, X recently revised its daily active user count to 245 million. Yaccarino initially cited “200 to 250 million” daily active users during the interview. Mashable’s report further highlights that X has lost millions or roughly 3.7% of daily active users since Musk’s acquisition. These numbers show a decline even from the figures shared by Musk himself last year, which indicated 259.4 million daily active users in mid-November 2022, resulting in a loss of nearly 15 million users or around 5.6%.

Yaccarino attempted to divert from the topic of user metrics during the interview, but she did mention that X has 550 million monthly active users. The growth of monthly active users under Musk’s leadership remains unclear. Yaccarino also predicted that X would become profitable in 2024 and claimed that 90% of the top 100 advertisers have returned to the platform in the last 12 weeks alone.
