Honda is recalling more than 750,000 vehicles because of an airbag problem that could be deadly, federal safety officials have announced. A flaw with a weight sensor in the front passenger seat is causing the airbag to deploy inadvertently in some Hondas and Acuras. In models Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V, and Odyssey, along with other makes, the front passenger seat weight sensor could crack and short-circuit, leading to the airbag not deploying as intended.
The notification of the recall comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and is outlined in detail. Models made between 2020-2022 impacted include the Honda brand’s Pilot, Accord, Civic sedan, HR-V, and Odyssey, alongside the 2020 Civic coupe and Fit. Also, the 2021-2022 Civic hatchback and the 2021 Civic Type R and Insignia, and Acura makes including 2020 MDX, 2022 MDX, 2020-2022 RDX, 2020-2021 TLX vehicles. The safety regulators urged concerned car owners to anticipate letters in their mailboxes by March 18th detailing this recall and the next steps to take in addressing the issue.
