Music company BMG has acquired the recordings catalog of Australian rock band Jet in a landmark deal. Under the agreement, BMG has acquired the recorded music rights for Australia and New Zealand to Jet’s first two albums, “Get Born” and “Shine On.” Additionally, BMG has acquired the artist’s royalty stream worldwide for these two albums and the global recorded rights to Jet’s third album, “Shaka Rock.” This deal expands on Jet’s existing worldwide publishing deal with BMG established in 2017. BMG states that Jet’s songs are perennial global licensing favorites and have been featured in various advertising campaigns, films, TV series, and video games.
Jet, a multi-platinum rock band formed in the late 90s, achieved immense success with their debut album, “Get Born.” It achieved 9x Platinum certification in Australia and reached Platinum status in the UK and US, with hit singles like “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Rollover DJ.” The band has sold over 6.5 million records worldwide. The acquisition of Jet’s catalog by BMG adds to its roster of talented Australian and New Zealand artists and expands its scope as the fastest-growing music company in Australia. BMG’s recent acquisitions include the writer’s share of royalties of SNAP! member Michael Münzing and the recordings catalog of British rock group The Hollies.
BMG’s strategy has been successful, reporting an 11.5% year-over-year increase in revenue in the first half of the year. The company manages or holds rights to the works of legendary artists such as Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, George Harrison, and David Bowie. Jet’s Chris Cester expressed confidence in the BMG team and their ability to deliver on their promises. Heath Johns, BMG President, Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia, praised Jet as a generation-defining band and expressed gratitude for the faith they have shown in BMG through this significant deal.
