Jewel John has been announced as the sixth scholar of the Richard Antwi Scholarship. She will receive a full scholarship for the Music Business Management MA course at the University of Westminster in London, starting later this month. John, who has a BA in Music Business & Arts Management, co-founded ‘Soul & the City,’ an events company focused on developing and showcasing emerging talent. The scholarship, established in memory of Richard Antwi, aims to provide opportunities for aspiring music business leaders from underrepresented communities.

Thanks to the support of Universal Music UK, Universal Publishing UK, Sony Music UK, and Sony Music Publishing UK, John will also receive a ‘London Living Wage Stipend’ to offset the high cost of living and studying in London. The scholarship, valued at GBP £22,000, also includes mentorship and tailored work placement opportunities aligned with John’s professional goals. The Richard Antwi Scholarship was previously awarded to individuals like Janelle Mitchell, an emerging music executive at Believe. Its purpose is to create a more equitable industry for exceptional young talent from underrepresented backgrounds.

Phillip Antwi, Richard Antwi’s brother, congratulated Jewel John on her selection and expressed his family’s excitement to welcome her into the community of scholars. The scholarship allows them to honor Richard’s vision by supporting young talent from diverse backgrounds and contributing to a more equitable music industry. The scholarship is open to Black and minority ethnic students who have been accepted into the MA Music Business Management course at the University of Westminster. It has received financial support from various music companies and law firms in the past.
