Seven Starbucks locations in San Francisco will be closing down on October 22, as part of the company’s ongoing evaluation of its store portfolio. A Starbucks spokesperson stated that this evaluation is conducted annually to determine the best way to meet the needs of their community and customers. The spokesperson emphasized that while some stores are closing, Starbucks has also opened three new locations and is renovating four others in downtown San Francisco. Starbucks remains committed to investing in the city and serving their partners and customers in the best way possible.

This closure follows the departure of several other well-known chains from San Francisco in recent years, including Whole Foods, CB2, Anthropologie, and Nordstrom. The trend of closures by these companies reflects the challenging business environment in the city. Despite these challenges, Starbucks continues to see the potential and importance of investing in San Francisco. In an internal memo, Jessica Borton, Starbucks’ regional vice president for Northern California, expressed their dedication to supporting the city and its residents through their presence and operations.

While the closure of the seven Starbucks locations may be seen as a setback for the company, it is also an opportunity for them to reevaluate their footprint in San Francisco and potentially explore alternative formats for their stores. Starbucks remains committed to meeting the evolving needs of the community and customers, and this evaluation process enables them to ensure that they are best serving their target market. By opening new locations and renovating existing ones, Starbucks aims to continue providing a meaningful and important presence in the city.
