The shooting occurred during the bar’s popular “$8 Spaghetti Night.” One of the regular patrons, Geoffrey Kagy, received distressing text messages from his girlfriend, Jacqueline Bass, who was at the bar during the incident. She informed Kagy that a gunman had opened fire, and she was running for her life. The initial 911 caller reported six gunshots, and responding deputies were able to locate and pin down the retired police officer near a silver truck. Orange County Undersheriff Jeff Hallock expressed the community’s grief, highlighting that Cook’s Corner, the bar where the incident occurred, holds a special place in the hearts of Trabuco Canyon residents.

Local officials and residents were deeply saddened by the tragic event, once again highlighting the need for stronger measures to prevent gun violence. State Senator Dave Min expressed heartbreak over yet another mass shooting, while Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley emphasized the urgency to protect survivors and prevent senseless acts of violence.
