Former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro is set to report to prison after the Supreme Court rejected his request for a last-minute reprieve. Navarro, 74, will be the first former White House official ever jailed for contempt of Congress for failing to respond to congressional subpoenas related to the investigation of the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack. He will spend his sentence at a minimum-security federal Bureau of Prisons satellite camp in Miami, near a zoo where he can hear lions roar every morning.
Prison consultant Sam Mangel, who spoke with Navarro on Monday, revealed that Navarro is nervous about entering an unknown world behind bars. Despite being sentenced to four months in prison, Navarro is unlikely to serve the full term due to laws allowing for early release for federal inmates. Mangel expects Navarro to serve about 90 days and recommended that Navarro take on roles such as a law library clerk or an orderly to stay in air conditioning as Miami’s weather warms up. The prison camp in Miami is one of the oldest in the country, housing fewer than 200 inmates, and Navarro will have access to phone calls, email, and news on TVs inside the prison during his stay.
