Google’s Unprecedented Pixel Phone Accidentally Exposed: A Gamechanger

Google may surprise customers by revealing a new foldable phone, not the Pixel Fold 2, according to a report from 9to5Google. The report found a mention of an unreleased Pixel device codenamed “Comet” buried within the code of the latest version of the Pixel Buds app. It is worth noting that Comet does not fit into the typical Pixel release cycle as it does not follow the naming convention of dog breeds like other Pixel devices. The report suggests that Comet could belong in the same category as the Pixel Fold, and it even refers to the device as a “fold.”

Given that the Pixel Fold is not expected to receive an update until May 2024, it seems unlikely that Comet is the Pixel Fold 2. However, a flip handset like Comet could be more appealing to consumers interested in foldable phones, as the Pixel Fold’s high price of $1,800 makes it too expensive for most people. While all eyes are currently on the upcoming Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, set to be announced on October 4, the mention of Comet offers a tantalizing glimpse into Google’s future plans for foldable phones.
