Jony Ive Backs Blender Company with Investment

Jony Ive, the famed designer formerly associated with Apple, has made an undisclosed investment in Cruz, the company behind the BlenderCap. The BlenderCap is a USB-C-powered bottle cap that has built-in blades, transforming drink bottles into portable blenders. Cruz, founded by former Apple engineers, aims to create products in the spirit of Apple. The company plans to use Ive’s investment to bring new products to market, focusing on building a technology ecosystem in the drink-ware space.

The BlenderCap, which was showcased at CES earlier this year, comes with a 32-ounce vacuum insulated bottle but can also be used with other wide-mouth bottles from brands like HydroFlask. It has been reviewed as powerful enough to blend frozen fruit and capable of making six full drinks per charge. The company’s battery technology, which packs more power into smaller form factors, is its secret ingredient.

In addition to expanding its inventory of BlenderCaps, Cruz intends to develop various other consumer appliances, with a special focus on the kitchen space. The company’s proprietary battery technology is versatile and can be applied to different small enclosures that require portable power. Ive expressed his praise for Cruz’s founders, commending their dedication and problem-solving skills. Alongside Ive, former Apple VP Nick Forlenza and former eBay CEO Devin Wenig have also invested in Cruz.
