Maximizing the New Windows 11 Copilot AI’s Potential: A User Guide

Microsoft has introduced its AI assistant, Copilot, in the latest update for Windows 11. Users can access Copilot through the taskbar or by pressing ‘Win + C’ on the keyboard. At present, Copilot’s integration with Windows is still in the early stages, and users should not rely on it for all computing tasks. However, it does offer some useful features such as launching apps and managing screenshots. Users can also ask Copilot to perform specific actions, like turning on dark mode or opening the main Settings panel. While some integrations are not seamless and require confirmation from the user, typing “take a screenshot” prompts Copilot to launch the Snipping Tool without any additional prompts. Microsoft plans to integrate Copilot with its other apps, although these features are not yet available to individuals and smaller organizations and will come at an additional cost.

In addition to its integration with Windows, Copilot can also be used for a variety of other tasks, similar to other generative AI text tools like ChatGPT or Google Bard. Users can ask Copilot to write poetry, compare smartphones, explain difficult concepts, or even come up with ideas for a kids party. To start a new chat with Copilot, users can click the refresh option and choose from suggested prompts. Different conversation options like More Creative, More Balanced, and More Precise are available, allowing users to choose between accuracy and imagination in the responses. Users can also speak their prompts aloud by clicking on the microphone icon. Copilot’s current settings include the ability to let it use Microsoft Edge content, allowing the AI to summarize news articles or explain terms on a webpage. Additionally, users can provide images for Copilot to work with, asking it to identify objects in the pictures or find similar images online.

While Copilot offers a range of features and integrations, it is important to note that it is still a preview feature and may not function perfectly in all cases. Microsoft is continuously working to improve and expand its capabilities.
