Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced at the Meta Connect conference that it is launching significant AI updates across its applications and devices. The company aims to integrate state-of-the-art AI into its apps, including Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, in order to enhance user experiences. Some of the new AI features include an advanced conversational assistant available on various platforms and the ability to generate images using a new image model called Emu. Meta’s AI is powered by a custom model that incorporates technology from the company’s open-source LLM (Llama 2).

Meta has also introduced a unique feature called an AI “cast of characters.” These characters are cultural icons and influencers, such as Snoop Dogg, Tom Brady, Kendall Jenner, and Naomi Osaka, who are played by AI with distinct personalities and interests. The company sees this as an opportunity to create a new type of interactive and personalized experience for users. Additionally, Meta launched the AI Studio platform, which allows businesses to build AI chatbots for its messaging services, and announced plans to release a sandbox tool that enables anyone to experiment with creating their own AI.

Another notable feature is the introduction of generative AI stickers that allow users to edit and co-create images with friends on Instagram. The AI editing tools, known as restyle and backdrop, utilize Meta’s new image generation model called Emu and Llama 2 technology. Furthermore, Meta is set to release its much-anticipated Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which can be controlled through voice commands using Meta AI. However, CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that these AI product launches are still in the early stages and require further improvements based on user feedback.

In conclusion, Meta is embarking on a massive AI update across its platforms, introducing features such as an advanced conversational assistant, generative AI stickers, and an AI “cast of characters.” The company aims to enhance user experiences and provide personalized and interactive features. The introduction of AI Studio and the upcoming release of Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses further expand Meta’s AI capabilities. While these updates are still in their early stages, Meta is actively seeking feedback to improve and refine its AI offerings.
