The Nintendo Switch continues to thrive in its record-breaking hardware and software sales, despite the decline in hardware sales. As the console enters its latter lifecycle stage, it has reported 139.36 million unit sales. Despite the numerous rumors and buzz surrounding the launch of ‘Switch 2’, the current Switch holds its ground with an ever-increasing number of users, supported by remarkable software sales.

Games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as well as Super Mario Bros. Wonder, have all demonstrated staggering sales figures. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has achieved 60 million sales, while Pokémon Scarlet & Violet rise to become the third best-selling Pokémon games ever. The success of these games coupled with the continuous rise in users playing on the Nintendo Switch prompts the question of ‘Switch 2’ release date. Despite the persistent rumors, the executive statement remains true that the current console’s status will hold for the year, even if a new console is announced and launched in 2024.

Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, remains bullish about the Switch’s longevity, despite investor and player anticipation for new hardware. However, with the surge in hardware rumors, it is clear that a substantial demand for fresh hardware exists. The company’s cautious approach after the Wii to Wii U transition is understandable, as they navigate the delicate balance of transitioning to the next generation without disrupting the existing success of the Nintendo Switch. While rumors continue to circulate, further insights into new Nintendo hardware are awaited to offer reassurance to eager players and investors.
