There have been speculations for some time that Pocketpair was planning to bring Palworld, one of the year’s most notable games, to the PlayStation 5. It was somewhat unexpected to learn during Sony’s State of Play stream that the action-adventure game is now available for the console.
Palworld—frequently described as "Pokémon with guns"—launched on Xbox and PC in Early Access in January. The game quickly became a success, selling over a million copies within just eight hours and reaching more than 25 million players within a month. According to Microsoft, it had the most significant debut ever for a third-party title on Game Pass.
However, it soon became apparent that The Pokémon Company was investigating Palworld. Eight months later, both The Pokémon Company and Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair. Nintendo stated, "This lawsuit seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights." In response, Pocketpair’s CEO mentioned that the game had "cleared legal reviews," and the studio indicated it would "begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement."
Despite the ongoing legal issues, Palworld has now been released on PS5. Players should be aware that the game’s future could be uncertain due to the lawsuit, but it is available for purchase on the PlayStation platform.
